Chia (Salvia hispanica) is a flowering plant from the mint family and is originally from Mexico. In northern Mexico are the now acclaimed tribe "Tarahumara" which is considered the world's best distance runners, and for them chia staple food. Chia has been cultivated since ancient times and it is likely that the Aztecs used it as part of their diet.
